Bark Beetle Blues
„An exploration of the roaring 70s, their oil-based fabrics and the ensuing forest decline, that is largely caused by a tiny bark beetle. There is (almost) no waste and no synthetic products used in this collection, so that it may fully decompose.
This zero-waste collection explores the impact the barkbeetle has on the decline of my hometown forest. The print resembles the holes the beetles dig into the large spruce trees, bringing them to fall. I took inspiration from 1970s menswear, because that is the era, where people were doing the most to harm the forest, but were least aware of the problem. The materials of the seventies were mostly synthetic and polyester based, which is incredibly harmful to the environment. But then they adorned them with flower and nature prints. What an ironic concept. That‘s why I chose natural fibers, wood and upcycled bedlinens for the collection, so that it would fully decompose. The toiles are fully manufactured, so that it can be sold as a sample.“
